Our philosophy is based on the careful selection of fruits and then processing them using traditional methods and modern equipment.

Therefore, it was entirely natural for us to resume our predecessors’ tradition of tending orchards in 2003, when we once again started making use of the ideal conditions for plum tree cultivation in Vizovice. More than 70,000 plum trees covered the hills surrounding Vizovice at the end of the 19th century.

Our long-term goal is to own around 200 hectares of cropland in three locations in the Czech Republic – and we are slowly working toward that goal: by 2019 we already owned 181 hectares of orchards. Subsidiaries of R. JELÍNEK Group in other countries also engage in fruit production. Distilling our own fruit gives us greater control over the quality of our raw materials and allows our customers to rely on the consistent delicious and delicate flavour of the resulting spirits.

Our orchards are not simply a source of raw materials – for us, they are an important part of the beauty of the local landscape. A hundred years ago Vizovice was surrounded by 70,000 fruit trees, but by the beginning of the 21st century only a fraction remained. Trees also serve an important ecological function – they help retain water in the landscape, both on the surface and beneath the ground. Planting trees therefore helps offset the impact of global climate change.

Plum Orchards

Most of our plum orchards, a total of 84 hectares, are located in Vizovice (near Těchlov and Janova Hora). We started planting our own trees in Těchlov in 2003 – since 2008 we have been harvesting and distilling nine different plum varieties to create Vizovice Slivovitz.

Making a quality product is a process that begins in the orchards – plums are harvested using a shaker to avoid damaging them. The plums are then transported by a conveyor system, which also cleans them, into crates. Only healthy, clean fruits are used for production. Each fruit must have sufficient sugar content to be suitable for production; in plums that is at least 18%.

Apricot Orchards

We like being as close to a good source as possible – the white limestone Pavlov Hills are surrounded by fertile vineyards and orchards. Apricot cultivation has been a part of the local landscape since time immemorial, and apricots produced here are among the best.

That is why we purchased 81 hectares of apricot orchards in Starovice and Velké Němčice in South Moravia in 2013, a significant addition to the total area of our orchards in the Czech Republic. In 2019 we first brought to market the Starovice Apricot Brandy, which is produced exclusively from apricots grown in these orchards.

Pear Orchards

The Williams pear variety is ideal for distillation due to its optimal flavour and aroma attributes. To secure the materials needed to produce this distillate, we have invested in a production facility in Chile, one of the foremost Williams pear producers in the world.

Cherry Orchards

In 2014 we enlarged the area of our orchards by another 15 hectares in Kostelany (Chřiby).

This new acquisition was dedicated to an entirely new orchard, mostly filled with cherry trees. It will be some time before spirits produced from the fruits of this orchard become available.
